If you are successful, we will invite you (and your partner or secondary carer if you have one) to fostering preparation group training, which takes place over three days (usually the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday of every month). If you are applying with a partner or secondary carer you must both attend.
This training is also part of your assessment and will prepare you to become foster carers. It will cover issues such as working with the child's family, child development, managing challenging behaviour, promoting the education and health of children and preparing young people for leaving care.
We will also explain the support and ongoing training that is offered to you, and talk to you about the next stage, which is the final assessment, and answer any questions you may have.
At Skills to Foster, you will also get the opportunity to meet other foster carers, and potential foster carers as well as our social workers, staff from our Placement Support Team and some looked-after young people.
